This funding was provided by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), both part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)’s Energy Data Centre (EDC) team is pleased to announce that they will receive more than £700k as a part of this award.

The EDC has been developed and is maintained by the Technology Department as a central hub of data and information for UK energy researchers.

Using the data centre, academics in the energy research field can access an extensive catalogue of information relating to energy projects, publications and data sets.

The funding awarded will ensure that the EDC continues to provide this pivotal support and also improve access to grey literature being produced by the UK’s energy Research and Development community.

Grey literature is information produced outside of traditional publishing channels which can be hard to find, such as conference proceedings or research reports.

Dr Jim Halliday, Technology Department Division Head and UKERC Co-Director, commented on the recent award:

“Technology Department’s Energy Research Unit has been running the Energy Data Centre for UKERC since 2004, during which time it has become a much-valued repository for not only data but also information about energy-related R&D being carried out in the UK, and “grey literature”.

“I am delighted that UKERC have asked STFC to continue to run the EDC for a further five years, which is not only is a testament to past performance but also a vote of confidence for the future.”
