Every four years STFC and the Sci-Tech Daresbury Campus open the doors of Daresbury Laboratory for a fun, free and family-friendly science extravaganza. The open day provides the rare opportunity to step inside a national laboratory and get up close and personal with world-changing science and technology. The celebration includes hands-on activities, tours, workshops and talks on subjects from space technology to super-powered microscopes.
In 2023, the Technology Department (which works at both Daresbury Laboratory and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory) supported the latest iteration of the event by creating a wide range of activities. Most of these could be found in the Engineering Technology Centre- which engaged visitors with exciting activities like supersonic ping pong balls and mini Mars rovers.
