Date: November 2023
Location: Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
In November, Technology supported the visit of a senior delegation from Japan's Super-Kamiokande and Hyper-Kamiokande experiments. This included Prof. Masato Shiozawa, Prof. Masayuki Nakahata, Prof. Francesco Di Lodivico and Prof. David Wark.
Eric Harvey-Fishenden, a Senior Mechanical Engineer in our High Power Targets group, welcomed the visitors into our team's laboratory to showcase a recently completed HyperK target.
The graphite target will produce neutrinos from a 1.3MW pulsed proton beam at J-PARC that will later interact within the 258kton Hyper-Kamiokande observatory currently under construction.
Our High Power Targets team are responsible for producing operational targets and beam windows, with optimum physics performance, whilst also being capable of operating reliably in an intense pulsed proton beam.
